Ashwagandha (Withania somnifera) is an incredibly healthy medicinal herb and is one of the most powerful herbs in Ayurvedic healing. Traditionally Ashwagandha had been administered to induce a soothing and calming effect on a person. Ashwagandha is considered an adaptogen and is perhaps best known for its ability to reduce stress and cortisol levels. Cortisol is known as a “stress hormone” because your adrenal glands release it in response to stress and when your blood sugar levels get too low. Unfortunately, in some cases, cortisol levels can become chronically high, and can lead to higher fat storage in the abdomen and elevated sugar levels. In a study of 64 people with chronic stress who were given placebo pills or 300 mg twice daily of ashwagandha root extract, findings show that after 60 days, those taking Ashwagandha had significant improvements in cortisol levels (a physical marker of stress), and in measures of anxiety, sleep, depression and general well-being. (According to research published in the July-September 2012 issue of “Indian Journal of Psychological Medicine.)

 

WITHANOLIDES AND ALKALOIDS

 

Two important constituents contained in Natures Elements Ashwagandha are Withanolides and Alkaloids, which are tested, measured and guaranteed.
